Florida lawmakers close in on end of 2012 session

Florida lawmakers are closing in on the end of their regular 2012 session.

The allotted 60 days will end Friday.

But the Republican-controlled Legislature may be back in special session if the House and Senate cannot agree how to deal with fraud plaguing no-fault auto insurance, known as Personal Injury Protection. It's one of Gov. Rick Scott's top priorities.

Lawmakers also may have to return if the Florida Supreme Court rejects their legislative redistricting plan. The high court has until Sunday to complete its review.

The Senate also is set for a final day vote on a divisive bill (SB 1718) that would allow parents at failing schools to "trigger" turnaround plans.

In addition, both chambers are taking final action an annual budget of about $70 billion.
