Former 'Housewife' Salahi talks about split, video

It's been several months since onetime "Real Housewives of D.C." star Michaele Salahi left husband Tareq for Journey guitarist Neal Schon, but she hasn't done much talking about it for the record -- until now.
Salahi and Schon joined TODAY's Natalie Morales Wednesday morning to discuss the split, the hurt feelings and Journey's new music video, which just so happens to feature the pair of them frolicking on the beach.
Salahi said she left her husband abruptly in late September of 2011 to escape a too-close, abusive relationship: "What happened between Tareq and I was him and I. It's between us. And what he did is push me away. When there's control or abuse or hurting someone mentally ... it's not love. It's smothering."
But she's clearly still stung by comments she claims her soon-to-be-ex Tareq made on TODAY back in September.
"When he joined Matt on this couch and said? that I was a groupie slut -- it's not about Journey, it's not about Neal, it's about him and I, and it's something that should have been between us," Salahi explained. "And there's enough pain in the world, he just needs to stop."
"This is the first time in five months that I've spoken," she added. "I would never defame his name."
But two things happened yesterday that seem to have propelled her to come forward. On Valentine's Day, Journey released that new music video for "Resonate," and on same day, TMZ reported that Tareq was suing Schon for $50 million for emotional distress, defamation conspiracy and interfering with a contract -- plus $450,000 in punitive damages.
Lawsuit aside, Michaele is happy.
"There's very much real love there," she said. "This is a great friendship. I'm thankful Neal is in my life."
(For the record: Tareq Salahi did not call Michaele a "slut" or a "groupie" in his September interview with Lauer, and their chat did not actually take place on the TODAY couch.)

2 convicted in health care fraud sentenced (AP)
CHICAGO ? Two former executives of health care company Canopy Financial Inc. who pleaded guilty to defrauding investors out of $75 million have been sentenced to prison.
Former President and CEO Jeremy Blackburn was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison. Former Chief Technology Officer Anthony Banas received a 13-year sentence. Both men pleaded guilty in 2010 to one wire fraud count.
According to court documents, Blackburn and Banas used false information about Canopy's financial condition to obtain about $75 million from several investors in 2009. They also allegedly pocketed about $18 million from accounts meant to pay people's medical bills.
The then-Chicago-based company declared bankruptcy in 2009.
The 34-year-old Banas is to report to prison April 18. The 38-year-old Blackburn begins serving his sentence March 20.

Ousted twice, 'Loser' Adrian is still a winner

There's no denying that former "Biggest Loser" contestant Adrian Dortch had a tough time on the show. First, he and his sister Daphne were booted out of the game on the very first episode. Later, they won their way back into it only to find out the other players weren't exactly happy to see them. Then, after two weeks of struggling to contend with complainer Conda Britt, Adrian's team sent him home again.
But just because he's back home it doesn't mean he's put his weight-loss plans on hold. As Adrian proved during a Tuesday morning visit to TODAY, he's still on a winning path.
"Well, all together I've really lost 140 (pounds)," he revealed. "I started off at 420 pounds at the beginning of this process. But if you're going from 'The Biggest Loser,' (I started at) 370. I'm down to 280, so it's 90 pounds (lost)."
So far.
After all the scale talk, TODAY's Al Roker asked Adrian the question that's been on every "Loser" fan's mind since he, along with his unique neckwear, made his very first appearance on the show: "I'm just curious -- what's up with the ascot?"
"It's 'Ascot by Adrian,' and the kids actually put this together as a fundraiser," the father and businessman said.
Adrian explained that part of the proceeds go to charities, including his not-for-profit organization, Entrepreneur Endeavors, an Evanston, Ill.-based group that focuses on helping children and young adults build practical skills, as well as self-esteem.
"That's pretty much what (the ascot's) about," he added.

Adrian and his ascot are out of the game, but his sister Daphne remains. Tune in to the "Biggest Loser" Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC to see how she fares without him.
